Humanities

Our teaching in Humanities provides our learners with opportunities to gain a deeper understanding, in a cohesive manner, of a range of concepts across five subject disciplines of:

• History
• Geography
• Religion, Values and Ethics 
• Business Studies
• Social Studies.

 

As a result of continually revisiting these concepts during their learning journey at St. Gwladys, the children build up a body of knowledge and possess a range of transferable skills. We ensure the five Statements of What Matters underpin our planning and delivery of Humanities lessons. We track the threads of these to ensure there is clear progression. Our Humanities curriculum provides our learners with the opportunity to consider local, national and wider world perspectives on a range of topics and issues, helping them to discover their heritage and develop a sense of place and Cynefin. 

  

 

 

We ensure our teaching is objective, critical and pluralistic and do not aim to make learners 'religious' or 'non-religious'. We provide opportunities for our pupils to make progress with their spiritual development and recognise this may or may not involve religion. When designing our Humanities curriculum, we make reference to the 7 RVE sub-lenses and explore these in different ways. Key festivals and religious, as well as non-religious, events are specified on our assembly rotas and are often explored within classes too.
