Attendance

We strive to ensure that children come into school each day to a happy and welcoming school. We promote positive attitudes towards attendance and punctuality as the strong link between attainment and regular school attendance is irrefutable. We consider it essential that children develop regular habits of attending school on a daily basis as early as possible in their school lives. In this way, children are more likely to be enthusiastic about their learning, to do well and to take part in healthy, enjoyable activities at school and in the local community.

Parents/guardians are asked to contact the school by telephone as early as possible and before 9.30am. on the first day of absence. On return to school, we require a note explaining the reason for absence. In cases of persistent absence, the Educational Welfare Officer (EWO) will be informed. The EWO may call at the home address.

No child may leave the school premises during school hours without the knowledge of the Headteacher, whether this be for medical appointments or other reasons. We ask that letters or appointment cards be shown to the member of staff on your child’s entry/exit gate or to the secretary at the Main Reception Office on Church Place on the day you take your child for the appointment. No child will be released unless accompanied by a member of the family. The school should be informed of any alternative arrangements.

Please note: We cannot release pupils to anyone under 16 unless previously arranged with the Headteacher.
